Description | tuned the increased cost per instance downward to 30% (from 50%). made it so that cost is amplified on a per-volition basis, so using ray twice increases the cost for ray by 30% the second time, but not the cost for blast, and vice versa. made it so that the bounces from node and the duplication from mirror doesn't amplify the cost using this mechanism, just in the normal way it used to (mirror = cost / 2, node = cost / 4). added backend support for all of this, moving the tuning factor to the lib, creating flags to support cost checks and assertions that don't step up within-heartbeat cost, and making a few functions/macros varargs. |
Reason | the current power peak for LBs is acceptable but too easy to achieve sustainability with; these changes are all aimed at putting some additional drag on that sustainability |
