Description | Removed the support for appearance-based hostility from guardian code. Hostility to incarnoi and companions across reincarnations is maintained by use of a unique ID. |
Reason | It was always prone to false positives, including against area guardians themselves, and making it less prone to those required periodically analyzing the appearance of all the area guards from the perspective of all the other area guards. This was tolerable when the appearance determination was relatively simple but -- guess what -- having it be simple increased false positives. So having it fine-grained enough to use be useful wound up lagging us progressively worse over days of runtime. So basically it was just a huge pain in the ass, and it's a crap way of implementing one of its core design goals (that Reaper-form Reapers should be kill-on-sight in civilized areas) anyway. |
Result | Settlements are never hostile to anybody based on them looking like somebody else. |
